In 2010 and beyond, companies face unprecedented challenges and opportunities. Winners are creating whole new industries, and losers are collapsing more quickly than could have been imagined just ten years ago. To navigate these successfully, companies need to supplant 20th century “strategic planning” with 21st century “agile strategy” - an approach that is continuous, innovative, collaborative and highly responsive to rapidly changing market conditions.

One of the pillars of agile strategy is business model innovation – designing new and successful business models to compete effectively in today’s dynamic, open markets. In many industries, traditional business models are being disrupted by a wide range of innovative models that deliver greater value to customers and capture more of that value for companies. Recent research by the Boston Consulting Group demonstrates that business model innovation delivers significantly greater shareholder returns than product or process innovation alone.

This session will present a powerful new approach to business model innovation. It will describe the five critical elements of a business model, and discuss numerous examples of recent business model innovations in both business and consumer markets. This session will challenge you, provoke you, and potentially transform the way you think about your company’s strategy and business models.

New ventures face daunting challenges. Typically based on a technology or product innovation, the new venture needs to address multiple urgent issues - developing a business plan, raising funding, finding customers, building the product, attracting a team, forging partnerships and many more.

The high failure rate of new ventures attests to the difficulty of these challenges. Of the minority that get to revenue, and the even smaller minority that get to profitability, most invest so much capital and time that the returns barely justify the effort.

The best new ventures succeed because they go well beyond product innovation. They think in terms of business model innovation. And they follow a systematic, efficient process based on rapid, iterative experimentation to design a successful business model for the new venture. This allows them to minimize the use of capital and get to revenue and breakeven as quickly as possible .

This webinar will provide an introduction to applying the principles of agile strategy to maximize new venture success. In marked contrast to the 20th century conception of strategic planning, 21st century agile strategy is a powerful approach based on deep skills in business model and company model design and innovation. The result? Dramatic improvements in both short term results and long term value.
